About the
American Journal of Occupational Therapy
The American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT) is an official publication of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), which represents the professional interests and concerns of more than 230,000 occupational therapists, assistants, and students nationwide.
AJOT Mission
The primary mission of AJOT is to publish peer-reviewed research examining the effectiveness and efficiency of occupational therapy practice so that occupational therapy professionals can make informed, evidence-based decisions about best practice. In addition, the journal aims to publish (1) research documenting the reliability and validity of occupational therapy instruments; (2) studies demonstrating a relationship between occupational engagement and the facilitation of community participation and health; and (3) articles that provide a forum for scholars to debate professional issues that affect education, practice, and research.
AJOT publishes 6 issues per year online and has additional supplements, including a supplement consisting of abstracts of research presentations from the annual conference of the American Occupational Therapy Association. AJOT ceased print production and became online only in January 2019.
Impact Factor
The most recent Journal Citation Reports 2-year impact factor for AJOT is 2.1, and the 5-year impact factor is 3.2.
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts are submitted to the Editor-in-Chief at https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/ajot and must meet the requirements described in the current “Guidelines for Contributors to AJOT,” a document that is updated annually in the journal and is available on the AJOT website.
Because one objective of the journal is to be a forum for the free expression and interchange of ideas, the opinions and positions expressed by contributors are their own and not necessarily those of the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board, or AOTA.
