Date Presented 04/20/2023

This session will discuss results of a qualitative study on the lived experiences of refugee musicians. These immigrants, recently resettled in the United States, describe multiple barriers to music performance. However, data reveal that five factors have enabled them to continue making music despite the barriers. The session will discuss both the factors that constrain and those that enable music performance as an occupation that helps in the management of anxiety and other negative emotions.
